Why Do We Need Emotional Healing?
I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Fibromyalgia (FMS) in 2007. If you, or someone you know, has been diagnosed with an Autoimmune Disorder you may have an understanding of the frustration and fear one goes through just in the diagnosis process. After diagnosis, the journey begins.
Emotional Healing does not eliminate pain. Emotional Healing gets you to the place where your past and/or your pain is no longer a barrier to living the life that you want to live. Carrying emotional blockages, sometimes referred to as baggage, keeps us from our spiritual journey and life path. Emotional healing assists in releasing past blockages and patterns and allows the mind to see how things really are.
To help clarify what the words emotional and Healing mean, we need to look past society’s labels of the words. Synonyms of emotional are poignant, moving, touching, affecting, powerful, stirring, emotive, heart-rending, heartwarming, impassioned, dramatic, haunting, pathetic, and sentimental. Healing is described as the process of making or becoming sound or healthy again. Other similar words for healing are alleviate, ease, assuage, palliate, relieve, help, lessen, mitigate, attenuate, and allay.
I am writing this from my own perspective and experience. So it is important to remember there are trillions of personal stories and reasons why someone may need Emotional Healing. I believe sharing my simple story will resonate with you, or someone you know. I also believe after years of trial and error in my own journey that there is a balanced approach to modern medicine, natural medicine, and energy medicine when it comes to healing ourselves.
When I was finally diagnosed with RA and FMS I was not in a very good place emotionally and then the doctors were throwing a physical diagnosis in the mix. I was told “you will never step into a gym again”, “look into long term disability over the next 10 years”, and look into the “old people’s swimming classes.” How depressing. I was told everything I wasn’t going to be able to do, so I was preparing to set up camp on the couch.
Long story short, I found a personal trainer that challenged me and a year later I was competing in a bodybuilding contest. Five (5) months later, I was diagnosed with early stage Cervical Cancer. A year plus later I had burned through numerous RA drugs, I was training for another contest, my trainer finally had to pick me up off the gym floor and couple weeks later I was rolled into the hospital in a wheel chair unable to dress myself, drive, get down the stairs, many things most “normal” people take for granted. By this point, I had experienced so many emotional ups and downs that I couldn’t keep a level perspective of what was real or not. I was starting to run out of options with prescriptions, I was overwhelmed with trying to focus at work, my personal/social life was at rock bottom, and I was bawling to a Higher Power to let me pass on. Emotionally, I was not in a good place. But I was trying so hard to be a “Rockstar” and push through all of this. I kept asking, "Why is this happening?"
As stubborn as I am and as strong as I appear, I had to come to terms with the realization that I needed Emotional Healing too. Emotional Healing is an on-going journey. We all need someone to help us, put things in perspective during difficult times and gently guide us back on our life path. Emotional Healing is a personal journey that one needs to take periodically. Life is challenging and causes us pain, but if we can heal the pain so that we can see things differently we can focus on what is true and continue our fantastic journey.
