Taking Time for Ourselves
Why do we not take more time for ourselves?
I tell people all the time to set aside space to love themselves. How often do you take time to nurture and love yourself? Last weekend, I took the entire weekend to really love myself. I unplugged the computer, stopped working, and spent time with other amazing women connecting, inspiring, and being in “awe” of their accomplishments. It allowed me to pause and reset my energies.
This year has provided many of us with opportunities to stretch outside of our comfort zones, to evaluate our lives, and to rethink what we want to do going forward. Most of the time, I am so buried in the tasks at hand that I unable to see past the large “To Do” list that I have created for myself.
Why is taking time to pause so important?
When you are able to disconnect for a short period of time from the mainframe of operations that you have created for your life, you may find fresh new perspectives and ideas. How often throughout your day, or weeks, do you take a few deep breaths, pause, and connect to your inner soul guidance system? You may not be able to disconnect for a day, a weekend, or a week. You may think that you have too much on your plate to unplug for that length of the time. The truth is that you will be more productive, more creative, and more connected if you do take the time to unplug and pause from your daily and weekly routines.
I am grateful that I took the time to pause and love myself this month.
What are the benefits of taking time for yourself?
It always takes me a day to really unplug from my life. The first few hours are typically spent thinking about all the things that I need to get done and the time it will take for me to catch up when I return to my reality. Can you relate? I will start to relax on the second and third days. My body begins to unwind and release the tension I have been carrying in my physical body. I start to become aware of the new pace and I begin to recognize the true value of this time that I have been given.
- My physical body releases the tension, stuck energies are moved, and I begin to find new momentum for moving forward
- My mental body releases the stress, makes space for new perspectives and ideas, and releases some old beliefs
- My emotional body reminds me again of my passions, purpose, and the importance of my spiritual mission
This year has been about change for me. It has required me to look at all things differently and to find new ways to connect and move forward. It has pushed me outside my comfort zone, challenged me to push through my own personal fears, and encouraged to step into the energies of love. It has not been easy. However, it has allowed me to expand and grow on a spiritual level.
What have you done for yourself lately? What can you do for yourself right now?
