Self-Love Assessment

1.21 Clearing Your Space

What does it mean to love yourself?

February is the month of LOVE. It is also the month to love yourself. When was the last time that you loved yourself?

Take a moment to take this assessment:

#1. Do you take responsibility for your life and choices?

#2. Do you commit to any regular routines that allow you to pamper yourself on a regular basis?

#3. Do you block time off each week to allow yourself an opportunity to love yourself?

#4. Do you plan regular opportunities to hang out with family and friends?

#5. Do you have a meditation ritual or take time journal at these 2-3 times a week?

#6. Do you see the beauty in your life?

#7. Do you get at least 6-8 hours of restful sleep each night?

#8. Do you set healthy boundaries at work for yourself?

#9. Do you set healthy boundaries at home for yourself?

#10. Do you allow yourself an opportunity to do things that you love?

#11. Do you follow your dreams even if it takes moving through your fears?

#12. Do you keep fresh flowers in your home or office?

#13. Do you know who you are?

#14. Do you wear clothes that make you feel good?

#15. Do you create opportunities to spend time with the people that you love?

#16. Do you hold a space of respect for yourself?

#17. Do you require others to respect you?

#18. Do you have a pet that you love and care for in your life?

#19. Do you take risks, try new things, and seek change in your life?

#20. Do you believe that you can do anything or beanyone that you want to be?

How many of these answers were Yes? How many were No? Were you totally honest with yourself?

Studies show that we do about 300-400 evaluations of ourselves and our life per day and many of these evaluations are negative. If your self-talk and actions towards yourself are unkind, then it can be said that you are having challenges with loving yourself.

Obviously, there is a scale, and everyone lands in different places on the spectrum. Most individuals have some degree of self-love and acceptance of themselves. You may be constantly judging yourself and using statements like:

  • I messed up.
  • I did it wrong.
  • I am not good enough.
  • I always fail.
  • No one will ever love me.

Your words and thoughts create your reality. You can easily get stuck in a cycle that you cannot seem to get out of. It will take determination and effort to move past these beliefs into a new perspective.

When you get stuck in these cycles, it can create:

  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Increased physical pain and ailments
  • Increased anxiety and depression
  • Increased weight gain
  • High levels of loneliness
  • Restless sleep patterns

When you find yourself stuck in old wounds and patterns, it will take more than a spa day or massage to break the cycles. You will need to create a commitment plan for yourself.

Commitment Plan

Here are some simple steps for creating a commitment plan for self-love.

#1. Show love for yourself. Block out time each week for an activity that shows that you are loving yourself. These can be the same activities or a variety. Some recommended activities include:

  • Sacred salt bath
  • Time for stillness (Meditation, Journaling, Mindful Exercises, etc.)
  • Massages, pedicures, and manicures
  • Nature walk in your favorite place
  • Yoga class
  • Playdates with family and friends

#2. Re-write the story. Stop telling everyone how bad your life is and shift the story to what is good in your life. Hit the rewind button and create something new to talk about with friends and family.  Find the space for gratitude and talk about what has been good.

#3. Be consciously aware. Pay attention to the self-talk that is playing in your head. When you notice a negative thought, say three times “Cancel, cancel, cancel.” Replace the negative thought with the reverse statement that is positive and state it three times. Example: “No one cares about me.” You say, “Cancel, cancel, cancel. I AM loved and cared for. I AM loved and cared for. I AM loved and cared for.” Try to use “I AM” in your replacement statements. It is important to understand that it takes three positives to overcome one negative.

#4. Bring in positive influences. We are affected by the things we see, we hear, and we feel in our lives. This includes the shows and movies you watch. The games you play. The music that you listen to. And the individuals that you spend time with. Pay attention to the influences that you have in your life and shift to more positive, inspirational, and motivated experiences.

Take the time to make any changes needed to love yourself more this year. You are worth it.
