Divination Tools: History & Uses of Divining Rods & Pendulums
THE HISTORY
The process of dowsing originated in Germany in the 15th century. It was used to find buried minerals. The practice uses a branched wooden stick (a dowsing rod) to locate water or minerals. This is known as dowsing or divining. It has also been called water witching in some areas of the United States.
Traditionally, the dowsing rod was a forked branch held by the individual with the pointed stem of the branch facing away from the individual. The dowser, the individual seeking the water or minerals, holds the pointed stem away from the body. The pointed stem pulls or bends downward toward the find.
Modern-day dowsers will often use paired “L” shaped rods. Some of the rods are constructed by glass or plastic rods. An alternative form of dowsing is using a crystal or metal pendulum.
TYPES OF DIVINING RODS
There are several different types of divination tools:
PENDULUMS: A weight suspended from a chain, cord, or string which swings in different directions in response to questions. You can create a pendulum out of various items. EXAMPLE: A simple string with a paper clip.
BOBBERS OR DOWSING WANDS: This is a single rod with a weighted end that bobs or moves in response to questions.
L-ROD: This pair of rods is L-shaped. They are held in each of the hands and are considered to be more reliable.
Y-ROD: This type of divination tool was made from a forked branch. They are held in each hand and they move in response to questions or energies.
Have you ever worked with these tools? We play with all these divination tools in our October Psychic Development program. Check it out on our websites: www.discoveryourspiritualgifts.com OR www.vialetrayne.com
Uses of Pendulums
Individuals use pendulums for many different reasons, including
Locating items
Testing items,
Determining things
Choosing directions
Moving energy.
There are many different types of pendulums including crystal, metal and wooden. They are used for specific purposes. I have pendulums everywhere in my home and workspace. I love to use them for confirmation, choices, and guidance.
We always work with your pendulums by programming and setting the intention before using them for a tool. You want to make sure that you understand how to work with them properly, so you get the best information.
