New Year Ritual: Pulling Your Cards
Divine Guidance for the Year Ahead
In the Sacred Candles of Intention class, students are invited to select a tarot card for each month of the upcoming year. These cards become spiritual signposts—offering insight, alignment, and deeper understanding of the monthly energies. Even if you weren’t able to attend the class, you can still embrace this meaningful ritual on your own.
A Sacred Practice
This is one of my most cherished end-of-year rituals—one I’ve practiced faithfully for over a decade. Each year, I pull a card for every month, creating a sacred map of guidance and reflection. The messages I receive serve as gentle reminders that the universe is always offering support, wisdom, and encouragement as I journey through the year.
How to Perform the Ritual
Prepare Your Deck
Select your favorite tarot deck, using only the Major Arcana (cards 0 through XXI). I personally work with the traditional Rider-Waite deck, but you can use any version that resonates with you.Create Sacred Space
Light a candle, take a few deep breaths, and enter into a quiet, meditative state. Call in your guides, angels, or higher self to be present with you. Set the intention to receive divine messages for your highest good in the year ahead.Set Your Foundation
On a piece of paper, write down the months of the year: January through December—leaving space beside each to record your card.Shuffle and Pull
With focus and intention, shuffle the Major Arcana cards. One by one, pull a card for each month, trusting your intuition to guide the process. As you reveal each card, write it down next to its corresponding month.Anchor Your Monthly Card
At the start of each new month, place that month’s card on your altar or in a sacred space where you can reflect on its message. Let it serve as a source of insight, energy, and support throughout the month.
