When it comes to creativity, do you have an overabundance or are you seeking more?
Most of us love to be creative and we bring that creativity into designing, creating and building our business. This allows us to have our creative juices flowing as we do our day-to-day activities. Creativity is a great tool to have when you own your own business. It allows us to stretch our arms and to stand out in the crowd above everyone else.
The BEST Outcomes for Creativity for Business
Everyone has competition. There are very few original ideas. The majority of products and services being created or launched are variations of an original concept. The variations allow the business owner to find their niche within the marketplace. It is difficult to build and expand a business that is a mirror image of your competitors or everyone else. The most successful businesses have found a lane that has few drivers and they have shown their clients something unique or different from everyone else.
THINK ABOUT THESE QUESTIONS:
- How are you different from everyone else around you? Your industry? Your community? Your competitors?
- Why should someone pick you over others offering similar products and services?
- Who is your client? What are their needs and desires?
Being creativity to find your niche and what makes you different is the BEST way to use those creative juices.
SOME EXAMPLES:
- If you are a practitioner, how are your services different than other practitioners? Who are you attracting to your business?
- If you are a reader, how are your readings different than other readers? Who are the individuals that are seeking what you have to offer?
- If you are a massage therapist, what makes your massages better than other massages? What do your clients love most about your work?
The WORST Outcome for Creativity for Business
Some of the things that you want to avoid in your business is being too creative with the name of your business, the name of your classes, the name of your services, the name of your product, etc. Everyone today is super busy, and they are absorbing information at a very fast pace. When they are looking for a resource or searching for a business, they will spend seconds reviewing the content. When I took a graphic design course years ago, they talked about the different types of people in the world.
- Skimmers: These are the individuals that will skim materials. They never read all the content. They look at the pictures and words that grab their attention. This is the majority of people.
- Scholars: They will read every word in the content. They digest information on a broad scale and love to have all the details. This is a low percentage of people.
If you are trying to grab their attention, you must be clear and precise in your content. They must understand who you are and what you are offering within seconds of looking at your business card, marketing materials, social media channels and website.
Have you ever seen business names and you asked yourself, “What is that business?” Let’s look at some examples:
- Denver Springs – What type of business is this?
- Jitters – What type of business is this?
- Stubbs – What type of business is this?
The convenient stores in Denver that are called “Kum & Go” have always made me wonder why they would have chosen that name. The name of your business should provide a very clear understanding of your business in seconds. I believe that I select a great name for my center, Discover Your Spiritual Gifts. I wanted a business name that would not limit my work, that would expand as I expanded and would provide some understanding of why we created the business. What does the name of your business say?
I have also seen teachers and practitioners get really creative with the titles of their programs, descriptions of their classes and services. When you are too creative, the average person is not going to research deeper on what you are offering, they are going to go to the next person that has a clearer description. If you are unable to describe what you do and offer in two seconds, your clients and students are not going to understand either.
Make sure that you are using your creative juices in the right areas of your business. Be clear on who you are and what you offer. It is time that you find the right lane for you that allows you to stand out from the crowd.
