The Energy of January

The month of January holds the energy of new beginnings. It is the time of the year where most people reset their home after the holidays. The stores are filled with items to get organized and we become inspired to create a new start for ourselves and our families in January. January brings in the energies of a clean slate. It is a time where we can truly reset our lives for the new year.

New Beginnings

As we move into the energies of New Beginnings, the universe is nudging us to consider some new things for our lives. Take a moment and ask yourself these questions:

• What have you been resistant to starting?
• What have you been wanting to do for the first time?
• What will you commit to doing this year?
• What is something you’ve been considering but haven’t begun yet?

Once you have taken time to ponder these questions and you have an idea of what you want to start this year, you can jump-start these new energies by:

• Taking a new route on your drive to the store, work, or other destination
• Trying out a new store, restaurant, recipe, or exercise
• Checking out a new group, organization, class, or event
• Committing to a new routine, ritual, or action

Pulling Your Cards

I have a ritual of pulling cards for each month of the year. This ritual has been one of my life rituals for over ten years. I have found that the universe provides me with strength, support, and guidance throughout the year in my cards. I will pull my cards during the Sacred Candles of Intention process at the end of the year. If you were unable to attend this program, you can still pull your cards for the year.

In my ritual, I use the major arcana (0 Fool through XXI The World) of my favorite tarot deck.

• I pull out all the major arcana cards.
• I light a candle and set sacred space for my ritual.
• It is important for me to be in the right space of mind when I do this ritual.
• I get out a piece of paper and write down the months on the paper: January through December.
• I shuffle the cards and select a card for each month.
• I write down the card for each month.
• I set the card for the month on my altar, so I can be focused each month.

Your Card for January

Have you pulled a tarot card for the month of September yet? Here are some things to thing about during the month of reflection, based on the card you pulled:

0 Fool

Energies: Brand New. New Beginnings. New Starts. Clean Slate.

The Fool is asking you to release control and surrender to something new. Be the child of wonder and take a leap of faith. You need to trust the universe. Let go and surrender to new things.

I Magician

Energies: Mastery. Confidence. Intellect. Resourcefulness.

You are the Magician. You have all the tools and resources you need to start something new. This is the perfect time for you to bring new things and opportunities into your life. Seize the moment.  

II High Priestess

Energies: Wisdom. Knowledge. Intuition. Higher Powers.

The High Priestess holds the mystery and wisdom of the universe. She suggests taking time for reflection on what you are ready to start in your life. She wants you to trust your inner guidance system and follow your instincts.  

III Empress

Energies: Nurturing. Family. Fertility. Abundance. Beauty.

The Empress holds the maternal energies of nurture and care. She brings in the energies of creation. Take time to get creative and nurture something brand new in your life.

IV Emperor

Energies: Authority. Leader. Structure. Solid Foundation.

He holds the energies of stability and security. The Emperor is suggesting that you are in control and on top of things in your life. Your hard work is going to pay off and bring in new things. Take time to set your own boundaries with new opportunities.

V Hierophant

Energies: Teacher. Teaching. Beliefs. Religion. Tradition.

The Hierophant is the counselor. He holds spiritual guidance for you this month. It is time for you to seek spiritual wisdom through classes, programs, coaches, or mentors. Commit to something that will expand your spiritual wisdom.

VI Lovers

Energies: Love. Relationships. Union. Choices.

This card holds the energies of relationships. The Lovers are bringing in a new relationship into your life. The relationship could be a new partner, a new friend, a new family member, etc.

VII Chariot

Energies: Take Action. Motion. Determination. Will Power.

The Chariot is about taking action and moving forward. This card shows up when it is time to overcome and to move forward in your life. Work on gaining a new perspective and set plans in motion for new things in your life.

VIII Strength

Energies: Patience. Compassion. Strength. Courage. Control.

This card reminds us to connect with our inner strength and to have patience with a person or situation in our life. As new things appear in your life, take a step back, and allow yourself to step into a place of courage and compassion. You will triumph. 

IX Hermit

Energies: Introspection. Pause. Inner Guidance. Soul Searching.

This is time to pause and focus on inner reflection. The Hermit is encouraging you to start a new practice of meditation, mindfulness, and stillness. Take time to create a new practice for your life.

X Wheel of Fortune

Energies: Destiny. Change. Luck. Karma.

There are shifts and changes coming into your life this year. The Wheel of Fortune will sometimes represent a change in station. This can include a shift in career, salary, home, and/or relationship. The new change may shift your destiny. Be open to new opportunities.

XI Justice

Energies: Fairness. Truth. Legal. Law. Cause & Effect.

The Justice card brings in fairness to a decision that has appeared in your life. It requires that you take the road that is the highest and best for all connected. Take time to consider everyone’s needs and desires when making new changes in your life.

XII Hanged Man

Energies: Crossroads. Decision. Sacrifice.

This card appears when you are required to surrender and let go of old patterns, ideas, or approaches to things in your life. It is time to take a new direction and consider something new. Let go of the battle and surrender to the possibilities.

XIII Death

Energies: Transformation. Transition. Ending. Letting Go.

The Death card typically does not represent a physical death. It shows up when it is time to release something in our life that is no longer serving us. This can be a new relationship, adventure, project, etc. If you have been struggling with something that you recently started in your life, this is an indication that you need to let it go.

XIV Temperance

Energies: Life Balance. Purpose. Meaning.

This card reminds each of us that we are pushing and working too hard on creating new things in our lives. It is time to have some patience and to step back from all of it for a bit. Take a day to play or find time for the things that you love. The time should give you new insight and perspective.

XV: Devil

Energies: Fears. Compulsive. Materialism. Addiction.

The Devil appears when we are being seduced by personal pleasures or the materialism of the world. You need to check in with yourself. The resistance to moving forward can be fear or it could be that you are not aligned with your true purpose. It may be time to re-evaluate your motives.

XVI Tower

Energies: Sudden Change. Disruption. Revelation.

You will be facing a sudden change in your life that you are not suspecting. Lean into the energies of this card as it will support you in this time of change. It is never easy to face this type of change, but there is a renewal of life after the storm passes. Allow yourself the time that you need to process. New things are on the horizon.

XVII Star

Energies: Inspiration. Connected. Hope. Spirituality.

You are being encouraged to step into new things on your spiritual path. These could be new beliefs, new gifts, new understandings, new teachings, etc. Be open to opportunities that will be showing up for you. These energies will bring you new hope and renewed faith in the universe.

XVIII Moon

Energies: Dreaming. Subconscious. Distraction. Auto-pilot.

The Moon brings in the energies of illusion and deceptions. Be careful about taking on new projects or things this month. Take a step back and make sure that you are seeing the BIG picture. You may be taking on something for all the wrong reasons.

XIX Sun

Energies: Inner Child. Fun. Play. Joy. Success.

This card brings in the energies of celebration and success. This is the month for happiness, joy, and harmony. You will be celebrating success on a new project, new situation, or new direction in your life. Take time this month to play, laugh, and dance.

XX Judgment

Energies: Take Responsibility. Self-Examination. Absolution.

You are awakening to the divine being that you are. You are seeing a new perspective on your life as you reflect on your experiences. This is the month to step into the realization that you have grown and expanded spiritually. The Judgment card examines each step as a new level of spiritual evolution.

XXI The World

Energies: Completion. Accomplishment. Integration.

The World represents the end of a cycle in our lives. You are stepping into a new cycle in your life. It is time to integrate the wisdom that you have gathered and step into something new and shiny. Take a moment this month to celebrate your accomplishments and hold a space of gratitude.
